Swiggy New Announcement: Big news for customers! Now you will have to pay this much for ordering food online

Swiggy has increased its platform fee on food orders to Rs 3. Let us tell you that Swiggy also charges a handling charge of Rs 4 on its quick commerce platform Instamart.

Online food delivery platform Swiggy has increased the platform fee on food delivery orders from Rs 2 to Rs 3. Swiggy’s competitor brand Gurgaon-based Zomato also started charging a platform fee of Rs 2, which was later increased to Rs 3 at some places. Let us tell you that Swiggy also charges a handling charge of Rs 4 on its quick commerce platform Instamart.

A Swiggy spokesperson told IANS on Monday that there has been no significant change on the platform fees. This is a common practice in the industry. The platform fee is currently Rs 3 in most of the cities where we operate, the spokesperson said.

Zomato also increased the charges

In April, the company had introduced a platform fee of Rs 2 per order, regardless of cart value. In August, Swiggy competitor Zomato also increased its platform fee from the initial Rs 2 to Rs 3 per order. Zomato started charging platform fees from Zomato Gold users, who were earlier exempted.

Which customers will not have to pay

Currently Swiggy charges platform fee as Rs 5 with a discount of Rs 2. After a discount of Rs 2, a fee of Rs 3 is charged from the customer. Platform fee is charged in addition to the delivery charge. This fee is waived for customers of the company’s loyalty program Swiggy One Membership. At present, the platform fee is applicable only on Swiggy’s food delivery service and not on Instamart orders.

Swiggy loan facility

Meanwhile, Swiggy has provided loan facilities worth more than Rs 450 crore to more than 8,000 restaurant owners under its capital assistance programme.

Launched in 2017, the capital assistance program is a unique approach designed to bridge the financing gap and empower restaurant owners. The company said in a statement that more than 8,000 restaurants have taken loans so far, of which 3,000 will take loans in 2022 alone.
