TRAI has asked telecom companies to bring cheap recharge plans but the companies have opposed it. TRAI says that cheap tariff packs should be brought which include wire and SMS facility, but the companies believe that this will hinder 4G/5G upgrade and 2G users will not be able to get fast data.
TRAI recently asked all telecom companies to bring cheap recharge plans. TRAI said that such tariff packs should be brought which should be for wire and SMS only. However, now Indian telecom companies have opposed it. They say that this step will take telecom far behind. Because this will also slow down the 4G/5G upgrade and it will not be possible for 2G users to get fast data. Because in such packs, only voice and SMS facilities will not be provided.
Telecom executive responded
Telecom companies have called this move of TRAI a step backwards. Because till now users are given the facility of unlimited wire calling, but after this policy comes, users will be charged for calling. Talking to ET, a senior telecom executive said, ‘Till now, telecom companies provide free service along with data packs. But once voice and SMS packs come, users will be charged for calling. Because in these, instead of data, charges are made for voice and SMS.’
2G users will be greatly helped
On Monday, the sector regulator had asked telecom companies to come out with a separate special tariff voucher. Bring voice and SMS packs for 30 days. This will help 2G users as they will not buy unwanted data. TRAI officials said, this will help 2G users of India a lot. It is going to be helpful for dual SIM owners and users living in rural areas. Because they have to buy a pack that offers data facility even if they do not want to. That is, overall there was a demand for cheaper plans.
