Government of India has decided to change the telecom rules and implement new ‘Right of Way’ (RoW) rules. These rules will come into effect from January 1, 2025 and will give more powers to the states. The new rules aim to facilitate the installation of optical fiber and telecom towers and speed up the expansion of 5G networks.

The government changes the telecom rules from time to time. Some new rules were given place in the Telecom Act. Now it has been said that it should also be followed. All the states have been asked to strictly follow these rules. It was named Right of Way (RoW) rule. Every state was asked to adopt it and exemption in charges was also given to different states.

Response sought by November 30

ET’s report claims that the new rule is going to be implemented from January 1. It will be boosted in installing optical fiber and telecom towers. Telecom operators and infrastructure providers are also going to get a lot of help from this. DoT Secretary Neeraj Mittal has written a letter to the secretaries of all the states on this matter. He said that everyone should ensure by November 30. The new rules of the RoW portal will be implemented from January 1.

State will get more power

Mittal wrote, ‘The new rule should come into effect from January 2025. The existing RoW rule should stop here.’ That is, now the new rule will be implemented. After the new rule comes, states will be given more power so that they can themselves give clarification to the authority on this matter.

What is RoW rule?

If we understand the RoW rule in simple words, then this is the same rule that sets the standard for setting up towers or telecom infrastructure on public and private property. With its help, the government focuses on modernizing the telecom infrastructure.

Property owners and telecom providers follow the RoW rules only. Because under this, public safety and transparency are given a lot of importance. A new rule is coming from January 1, 2025, after which many changes can be seen.

Full focus will be on 5G

In the new rules of RoW, more emphasis is being given on 5G. Now telecom infrastructure is being installed rapidly. This rule sounds very positive for fast networks because the focus will be on installing new towers for 5G. The maximum limit will also be fixed in this.
