This new variety of paddy will fight floods, will be ready in 110 days, bumper yield will be available even after submerging in water

This variety of red paddy is called Sahyadri Panchmukhi. Its special thing is that if the effect of the flood remains for 8-10 days, then its plants will not thaw. Sahyadri Panchmukhi crop is absolutely safe from flood water. This crop of paddy is ready in 110-130 days.

This is a unique type of paddy that will give a bumper yield even after it is completely submerged in water. Paddy or any other plant does not tolerate much water. This causes fear of crop rot. Paddy needs water but the plant should not be submerged. This causes crop damage and production falls. In such a situation, a new variety of paddy has been prepared which will fight the flood and there will be no difference on the production.

Mangalore in coastal Karnataka is a flood-affected area where thousands of acres of paddy crop are submerged in water. The main crop here is paddy, so its loss is considered a big setback for the farmers. Right now, 300 hectares of land is completely submerged in water. Most of the paddy has been cultivated on this land. Excess water is a major hindrance to the cultivation here. The farmers here plant a paddy crop, but the yield is reduced due to the flood waters.

Flood resistant variety

There is already a trend to sow varieties like MO4 in this area but even more yield is not available. This variety is less affected by water, but is considered very good in terms of production. In view of this, there has been a demand from farmers for a long time that any variety should be invented that will give bumpy production despite being submerged in water. There has been such a demand on which the effect of the flood is not at all or at least. Keeping this demand in mind, the Zonal Agricultural and Horticultural Research Station developed a flood resistant variety during 2020.

The plant can remain submerged in water for 8-10 days

This variety of red paddy is called Sahyadri Panchmukhi. Its special thing is that if the effect of the flood remains for 8-10 days, then its plants will not thaw. Sahyadri Panchmukhi crop is absolutely safe from flood water. This crop of paddy is ready in 110-130 days. The rice test produced from this paddy is very tasty. Its fragrance attracts people towards it. Scientists believe that due to its fragrance, the demand for Sahyadri Panchmukhi will increase day by day.

Its name is Sahyadri Panchmukhi

Several different tests have shown that Sahyadri Panchmukhi paddy crop will prove to be more effective than MO4 in the taluka of Mangalore. Scientists are motivating farmers to plant this crop. According to research, the production of Sahyadri paddy is up to 26 percent and water also has no effect. Production of its seeds has started in the Agricultural Research Center in Mangalore so that it can be delivered to as many farmers as possible.

Speed up seed production

According to the work done so far, a target of sowing Sahyadri Panchmukhi on 500 acres of land was set during the 2019 Kharif season. Under this, 180 quintal seeds of Sahyadri Panchmukhi were distributed to four farmers. During Kharif 2020, the target of paddy transplantation has been increased to 1 thousand acres. For this, 250 quintal seeds were given to 11 farmers of Mangalore. In this, a farmer managed to prepare 100 quintal seeds of Sahyadri Panchmukhi. If they got the benefit, then the farmers increased the demand for seeds. To accomplish this, the work of seed production is being intensified this year.
