Gokuldham wasis have been ruling the hearts of the audiences with the iconic portrayal of their roles ever since Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma first premiered on television in 2008. So much so, that today it is very hard to imagine them in any other role. However, India’s beloved sitcom stars had a very different start of their acting career. Here is the list of the small screen debuts of your favourite Gokuldham residents.

Dilip Joshi (Jethalal)

Everybody’s favourite Jethalal Champaklal Gada aka Dilip Joshi did his first TV show Kabhi Yeh Kabhi Woh in 1994. However he gained popularity after his show Shubh Mangal Savdhaan. Dilip has a long journey in the industry and before setting foot in the television industry he has worked in several Bollywood films including Maine Pyaar Kiya, Hum Apke Hain Koun to name a few and was a part of Gujrati dramas. He became a household name post his role of Jethalal.

Munmun Dutta (Babita Ji)

Jethalal’s crush Mrs. Babita Iyer aka Munmun Dutta made her television debut in 2004 with the show Hum Sab Bharti. Dilip Joshi was also a part of the show. Munmun has also been a part of a few Bollywood films.

Shailesh Lodha (Taarak Mehta)

Jethalal’s best friend and an intellectual columnist and writer both in the show and in real life, Taarak Mehta aka Shailesh Lodha made his television debut as a contestant on the famous comedy show, Comedy Circus in 2007.

Disha Vakani (Daya)

The ever entertaining Daya Babhi aka Disha Vakani debuted in television in 2002 as part of the famous show Khichdi. After that she has been a part of other projects like Ahat in 2004 which gave her recognition. Like Dilip, Disha too has been a part of several Gujrati plays and Bollywood films.

Raj Anadkat (Tapu)

There is no Gokuldham without the Tapu Sena headed by none other than Tapu aka Raj Anadkat. Raj made his television debut in 2016 with the show Ek Rishtaa Sajhedaari Ka. He later joined Ooltah Chashmah as elder Tapu replacing Bhavya Gandhi, who had been a part of the show since its start.

Shyam Pathak (Popatlal)

Toofan Express’ popular journalist patrakar Popatlal aka Shyam Pathak made his television debut in 2008 with the show Jasuben Jayantilaal Joshi Ki Joint Family. Later that year he became the part of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah. Before his television debut Shyam has also done a Chinese film.

Amit Bhatt ( Bapuji)

Jethalal’s Bapuji Champak Lal Gada aka Amit Bhatt has worked in several television projects. However, he made his debut with the show Khichdi in 2002. He has also been a part of a popular show called F.I.R in 2006 before he joined Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chasmah.

​Sunayana Fozdar (Anjali)

The healthy lifestyle promoter Anjali Taarak Mehta aka Sunayana Fozdar made her debut in television industry with the serial ‘Santaan’ in 2007. She later worked in several other projects like Humse Hai Life, Qubool Hai, Mahisagar, Yam Hain Hum, Ek Rishta Saajhedari Ka. She recently joined the Taarak team as Anjali replacing Neha Mehta.

Tanuj Mahashabde (Iyer)

Krishnan Iyer the South Indian scientist aka Tanuj Mahashabde started his career in the TV industry with the show Yeh Duniya Hai Rangeen in 2000. Tanuj, who was a writer on Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, was later cast for the role of Iyer.

Ambika Ranjankar (Komal Hathi)


 

The head of the Hathi household, Mrs. Komal Hathi aka Ambika Ranjankar made her television debut in 1992 with the show P.A Saahab. Ambika has a long journey in the industry and has been part of a plethora of other projects including Shubh Mangal Savdhaan with Dilip Joshi before she became a part of Ooltah Chashmah in 2008.
