Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has made a big announcement regarding the toll collection system. Actually, he told in a post that he is going to abolish the toll soon. After this the new Satellite Base toll system will be in place. The longer the vehicle owners drive on the highway, the more toll tax will be collected from them. Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari shared information regarding toll and said that the government is planning to abolish toll soon. A new system will work in its place. The Union Minister gave this information on the X platform (old name Twitter).
The new toll collection system will be satellite based and will be started soon. However, no deadline has been revealed yet. Under this system, users will be charged the same toll tax as per the kilometers they travel on the highway. This toll tax will be automatically deducted from the bank account. This will also give users a chance to save.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari had said in early December that the National Hive Authority of India (NHAI) aims to introduce the new system by March 2024. With its help, the time taken at toll plaza is to be reduced.
Toll waiting time has reduced with FASTag
At present there is FASTag system for toll payment. It was an electronic toll collection system which pays toll tax at automatic toll plazas. With its help, the waiting time at toll plazas has come down to an average of 47 seconds, which earlier was on an average of 714 seconds.
What is Fastag?
Fastag is an electronic toll collection system. It has Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology, with the help of which it makes automatic toll payment at toll plazas. It is installed on the wind screen of a car or other vehicle.
