Toll Price Hike: National Highway Authority of India will increase the toll fee by five percent from midnight of March 31.
Toll Price Hike: From April 1, traveling on Eastern Peripheral and Delhi-Meerut Expressway will become expensive for vehicle owners. NHAI (National Highway Authority of India) will increase toll charges by five percent from midnight of March 31. The work of determining new toll rates has started from NHAI. After Holi, new rates of toll fee will be decided and public information will be issued. Once the new rates become effective, there will be an increase in the burden on the pockets of lakhs of drivers traveling on Delhi-Meerut Expressway and Eastern Peripheral Expressway.
NHAI has given the responsibility of collection and maintenance of toll fees on other expressways including Eastern Peripheral Expressway and Delhi-Meerut Expressway to a private company. NHAI Project Director Dheeraj Singh said that according to the contracts of these companies, toll rates can be increased by a fixed amount every year. He said that from April 1, a five percent increase in toll rates will be implemented on most of the toll roads including Eastern Peripheral and Delhi-Meerut Expressway.
Integer will increase
At some places, toll fee may increase by more than five percent. Actually, if after five percent increase the toll fee will be Rs 63, 64 or Rs 89, 54, then such amount will be converted to integer. That means toll fee can be set at Rs 65 instead of Rs 64, Rs 90 instead of Rs 89 or similar amounts, which can be two-three rupees more. Similarly, if the amount fixed for a journey is 81, 51 or similar, then the integer amount can be determined by reducing it.
