Toll Tax: Soon, entry fee will be collected through Fastag at five toll barriers in Himachal Pradesh. With the introduction of this system, vehicles with numbers from other states will be relieved from standing in long queues to pay cash. This is being started at toll barriers located in Bilaspur, Parwanoo, Sirmaur, Nurpur and Una.

In the first phase, the system will be implemented at toll barriers connected to the four-lane. After some time, entry fee will be charged through Fastag in the remaining. Electronics Corporation has issued tenders regarding this proposal of the State Excise Department. The target has been set to implement the new system by August 15. This system is being started to give the benefit of streamlined payment processes to vehicles with registration numbers of states other than Himachal Pradesh. This will eliminate the need to queue up for cash transactions. This step is being taken to underline Himachal Pradesh’s commitment to adopt digital progress in transport management. Its aim is to increase convenience for passengers while optimizing traffic flow at important junctions.

At present, fee is charged through Fastag at toll plazas. There is only a system of cash payment at toll barriers. Due to this, there are long queues of vehicles at the barriers. To provide relief to people coming to the state from outside states, the government has decided to change the old system. The toll barrier operators will bear the cost of arranging Fastag. There are 55 toll barriers in the state. In the first phase, it has been decided to collect entry fee through fast tag at five barriers connected to the four-lane. After the success of the scheme, other barriers will also be brought under its purview. The entry fee charged from different categories of vehicles at toll barriers is valid for 24 hours. Rs 60 is charged from private vehicle drivers. Fees for other vehicles have been fixed according to their utility.
