Toll Tax: Now NHAI will charge double toll fee from these vehicles, know the reason

Toll Tax: According to the statement, this information will also be prominently displayed at all toll plazas, informing people about the penalty that will be imposed for entering the toll lane without having FASTag installed on the windshield.

Toll Tax: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is taking several steps to prevent people from deliberately not installing Fastag on the vehicle’s windscreen on national highways. According to an official statement released on Thursday, the NHAI has issued guidelines to charge double toll from such vehicles. Vehicles that do not have Fastag installed on the inside front windshield and enter the toll lane will have to pay double toll.

NHAI said that deliberate non-installation of FASTag on the windscreen causes unnecessary delays at toll plazas, causing inconvenience to other vehicles. “Detailed standard operating procedures (SOPs) have been issued to all user fee collection agencies and concessionaires to ensure double user fee is collected in case FASTag is not installed on the front windshield,” NHAI said.

According to the statement, this information will also be prominently displayed at all toll plazas, informing people about the penalty for entering the toll lane without installing Fastag on the windshield. The statement said that CCTV footage along with the vehicle registration number (VRN) at the toll plaza will be recorded in non-FASTag cases. This will help in maintaining proper records about the fee collected and the presence of the vehicle in the toll lane.

Any FASTag which is not affixed on the specified vehicle as per the standard procedure is not entitled to undertake electronic toll collection (ETC) transactions at the fee plaza and will be liable to pay double the toll fee and may also be blacklisted, the statement said. The NSAI said that issuing banks have also been directed to ensure that the FASTag is affixed on the front windshield of the specified vehicle while issuing FASTags from various points of sale (POS).
