Toll Tax Rate: Big News! Travelling on highways has become expensive from today, know how much toll tax you will have to pay now

Toll Tax Rate: Toll charges in India are revised annually in line with inflation and highway operators have put up notices in local newspapers announcing a 3% to 5% hike at around 1,100 toll plazas from Monday. Toll fees in India are revised annually in line with inflation and highway operators have given notices in local newspapers announcing an increase of 3% to 5% at about 1,100 toll plazas from Monday. A senior official of the National Highways Authority of India told news agency Reuters that since the election process is over, revisions have been made in the user fee (toll) rates. It was stopped during the elections which is now effective from June 3.

Toll increased so much on Delhi-Meerut Expressway

Drivers going from Meerut to Ghaziabad via Delhi-Meerut Expressway or to Shamli via Karnal Highway will be hit more by toll tax. From Sunday i.e. tonight at 12 o’clock, car drivers going from Meerut to Sarai Kale Khan will have to pay a fee of Rs 165 instead of Rs 160 at Kashi (Partapur) toll plaza. The fee for both sides in 24 hours will be Rs 250 instead of Rs 230. The burden of five to ten rupees will increase on drivers to go from Meerut to Karnal via Shamli on the Meerut-Karnal Highway. Different rates have been fixed for different vehicle categories.

The journey from Prayagraj to Varanasi and Kaushambi to Pratapgarh has become expensive

At the same time, now the journey from Prayagraj to Varanasi and Kaushambi to Pratapgarh has become expensive. It has been told that the toll tax has been increased by five to seven rupees per kilometer on small vehicles like cars and others and 25 to 30 rupees per kilometer on heavy vehicles. The toll tax has been increased the most between Kanpur-Prayagraj highway. If you travel by car, you will have to pay 55 rupees extra at Barouri toll plaza in Fatehpur and 40 rupees extra at Katoghan toll plaza.

These will benefit from the increase in toll

High operators such as IRB Infrastructure Developers and Ashoka Buildcon Ltd will benefit from the toll hike. India has invested billions of dollars in the last decade to expand national highways, with a total length of about 146,000 km, the second largest global road network.

Toll increased so much year after year

Toll collection increased to more than Rs 540 billion ($6.5 billion) in the 2022/23 financial year from Rs 252 billion in 2018/19. This was helped by an increase in the number of toll plazas and charges along with an increase in road traffic.
