Penalty due to old Fastag: Even after installing Fastag in the vehicle, you may face penalty at the toll plaza. Although this sounds very strange but it is true. Some drivers have to pay penalty after applying Fastag. People complained about this. When the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) conducted an investigation, the reason came to light. After this, NHAI has appealed to the drivers not to make such mistakes.
This problem is being faced by those drivers who rarely drive on the highway. And if you had gone earlier, you would have paid the toll in cash. But since February 2021, when Fastag has become mandatory, you have to pay penalty even after Fastag is fitted in the vehicle. Drivers even quarrel with toll officials over this. Even the toll workers are not able to explain the reason for this.
You also know the reason
The Road Transport Ministry started Fastag from November 2016. After this month, Fastag was made mandatory in new vehicles. That means, from November onwards, Fastag is being affixed on every vehicle by the showroom. But the first transaction through Fastag was started in December. That is, if you have purchased a vehicle in November 2016, then the Fastag installed in your vehicle will not work in the toll plaza. Now you have to change it.
If you have balance in your fastag then do this
Drivers should remove the old Fastag and get a new one. But if Fastag is linked to the bank account or there is money in Fastag, then you should go to the concerned bank and get another Fastag there and put it in the vehicle. The remaining money in the old Fastag should be transferred to the new Fastag.
Currently Fastag facility in 2000 toll plazas
At present, Fastag facility has been started in 2000 toll plazas including highways and state highways across the country. Apart from this, parking is also being paid through Fastag at many places. At present more than 6.5 crore Fastags have been issued in the country.
