Tomato Price Reduced: The general public troubled by the increased prices of tomatoes has got some relief and the steps taken by the government last week have started showing effect. Tomato prices have come down in many states- know where the relief was-
Tomato Price Slashed: In an effort to bring down the high prices of tomatoes, the Central Government has instructed government cooperatives to sell tomatoes at a cheaper rate. In co-operatives like NCCF and NAFED, earlier tomatoes were being sold at Rs 90 per kg and now it has been further reduced by Rs 10, after which they are being sold at Rs 80 per kg.
In which states tomatoes are available cheap
Tomatoes, especially in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Patna, are being sold at cheap rates, due to which the poor people have got some relief from the increased prices. According to government sources, seeing the rates of tomatoes going beyond the reach of the people, the central government swung into action and steps were taken to bring down the wholesale prices of tomatoes. The effect of trying to reduce the prices of tomatoes is visible mainly in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar and now this vegetable is available here at the rate of Rs.80 per kg.
What does the government say
Consumer Affairs Minister says that “The public has got relief from expensive tomatoes only because of the steps taken by the government, after which the prices of tomatoes have become cheaper by Rs. 35-40. Where till July 15, the price of tomatoes is Rs. 90 per kg. Whereas on the next day i.e. Sunday, July 16, these rates have been brought down to Rs 80 per kg. In front of the earlier rate of Rs 130-150 per kg, these prices can prove to be a great relief. In some other states also Tomato prices seem to be decreasing and they will decrease further in the coming times.”
The rising prices of tomatoes upset
The rising prices of tomatoes in the country have troubled the public and at some places the rate of this important item used in the kitchen had reached up to Rs 160-180 per kg. However, due to this, the government decided to take steps and made efforts to provide tomatoes to the government co-operatives NCCF and NAFED at a cheaper rate. Due to this, a decision was taken to increase the purchase of tomatoes mainly from Maharashtra and Karnataka and new arrivals of tomatoes were taken to the people through government agencies.
