Tourist visa stopped: The Canadian government has made a big change in its policy on multiple entry visas and has stopped issuing ten-year tourist visas. This may cause problems for people coming to Canada.
In the new guidelines, immigration officers will be able to decide at their level whether to issue a single entry or multiple entry visa. The officers will also decide for how long this visa should be issued. Earlier its maximum validity was up to 10 years or till the expiry of the travel document or biometric.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who is facing a political crisis
It is understood that this change in policy has been made to reduce public anger against Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who is facing a political crisis, over lack of housing, high cost of living and falling approval rating. Trudeau has already announced that he is reducing both temporary and permanent immigration.
Last month, Immigration Minister Marc Miller had said that the Canadian government should have taken action earlier to stop the flow of temporary immigration into the country which is now leading to a housing crisis. The immigration department has clarified that multiple visa holders will be allowed to enter Canada from any country as required during the period of visa validity.
