Traffic Challan: If you own a motor vehicle or a bike then you will definitely agree with this news. In daily life, motor vehicle challan keeps getting issued. But sometimes up to 90 percent discount is announced in depositing or disposing of it. Yes, we are not kidding you. The new Congress government of Telangana has given a unique opportunity to settle the old traffic challans. If people want, they can pay their old challan with a discount of up to 90 percent. It is starting from next Tuesday i.e. 26 December 2023.
What has been decided
Telangana government has announced this scheme yesterday itself. Actually, on the instructions of Telangana High Court, Mega Lok Adalat is being organized in the state on 30th December. Before this, the government gave a chance to settle the old traffic challans. This scheme will start from 26 December 2023 and will run till 10 January 2024. In this, people can go to the e-challan website and pay their pending challan with discount.
How much discount on what
How much discount will be given on filling the pending challan will depend on the vehicle category. Push carts and Telangana State Transport Corporation buses will get 90 percent discount on the challan amount. Meaning that they can go free by paying only 10 percent of the amount. Motorcycle-scooter and three-wheeler or auto-rickshaw drivers will get 80 percent discount on paying the challan. Meaning they will have to pay only Rs 20 out of Rs 100. Vehicles like cars and mini trucks, trucks, buses etc. will get 60 percent discount on the challan amount. Meaning that if they have a challan of Rs 1000 then only Rs 400 will have to be paid.

Now is the era of technology. Surveillance is being done everywhere through technology. If you are going in your car or bike, where did you jump the red light, where did you break the traffic rule, everything is being monitored through technology. Similarly, challan for breaking traffic rules is also issued automatically. In such a situation, it is advisable to keep checking the website by entering the number of your motor vehicle or bike, if there is any traffic challan issue.
There was a promise in the election manifesto
Congress in its election manifesto had promised to provide relief to vehicle owners by giving exemption on traffic challans. This promise has also been fulfilled. People have been advised to visit the Telangana Traffic e-challan website, check the pending challan of their vehicles and pay the concessional amount online. It is estimated that more than two crore traffic challans are pending across the state. Till March 31, 2022, there were a total of 2.4 crore challans pending here.
Exemption was given last year also
Last year, for the first time, the BRS government had offered relaxation to vehicle owners to enable them to pay their challans. A 75 per cent discount was offered for two-wheelers, while 50 per cent of the invoice amount was waived off for the remaining categories. The traffic police had earned Rs 300 crore in a period of 45 days. About 65 percent of the challans were paid.
