Meanwhile, the government has now started strict action against those who break traffic rules. The amount of fine has been increased 10 times. This rule has come into force across the country from March 1, 2025. Especially for crimes like drunk driving, riding a bike without a helmet and dangerous driving, the fine has been increased heavily.
Let us tell you that India is considered to be the country with the highest number of road accidents in the world. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said that in the year 2023, more than 4.80 lakh road accidents took place in the country. In which more than 1.72 lakh people lost their lives.
Heavy punishment for drunk driving
If you are driving after drinking alcohol, then now you will not get a chance to escape by just paying a small fine. According to the new rules, if you are caught for the first time, you can be fined Rs 10,000 and also jailed for 6 months. On the other hand, if you make the same mistake again, then you can be fined Rs 15,000 and jailed for up to 2 years. Earlier there was a provision of a fine of only Rs 1000 to 1500.
Strictness on driving without helmet and seat belt
At the same time, the rules have also been tightened for two-wheeler drivers. Now a fine of Rs 1,000 will be imposed for driving without a helmet. Along with this, the license will also be suspended for three months. At the same time, a fine of Rs 1,000 will be imposed for not wearing a seat belt in the car. Using a mobile phone while driving can now prove to be even more expensive. Earlier its fine was Rs 500. Which has now been increased to Rs 5,000.
A hefty fine will be imposed if there is no insurance
A fine of Rs 2,000 will be imposed if the vehicle is not insured. A fine of Rs 5,000 will have to be paid if there is no driving license. A fine of Rs 4,000 will be imposed for repeatedly violating insurance.
