In such a situation, the government is not only blocking the SIM cards of those committing online fraud, but is also blacklisting the mobile handset from which the online fraud is being committed. So that mobile fraud cannot be done twice.

However, now the government is directly blocking the mobile phones of the fraudsters along with their SIM cards. TRAI has intensified action against those who cheat mobile users by sending messages. Under this, the Department of Telecommunications i.e. DoT has started blocking the handsets involved in such activities apart from disconnecting the mobile numbers.

Government blocked 10 thousand mobile numbers

Let us tell you that the Lich Chakshu portal has been launched by the government for complaints related to online fraud. After this, till now 52 locations sending fraudulent SMS have been blacklisted. Also 348 mobile handsets have been blocked. Apart from this, 10,834 suspicious mobile numbers have been sent for verification. All these mobile numbers had to be verified by 30 April 2024. After this these numbers have been blocked.

You will not be able to get SIM on fake documents

DoT has blocked 1.58 lakh mobile devices taken on fake documents. According to the report, till April 30 this year, DoT has disconnected a total of 1.66 crore mobile connections.

How to avoid fraud

  • If someone sends you many fraudulent messages, then report it immediately on the Chakshu portal.
  • Apart from this, do not share OTP, password or sensitive information with anyone.
  • If you send a fraudulent message to someone, and someone complains about you, your mobile will be switched off.
  • Do not click on calls, messages and links coming from unknown numbers.
  • Do not get SIM card issued on fake documents.
