Kanchanjunga Express Accident, Train Cancelled: A freight train hit the Sealdah-bound Kanchanjunga Express near New Jalpaiguri station in West Bengal on Monday, causing at least two rear coaches of the train to derail. As a result of the accident, about 8 people died and about 25 people were injured. Four coaches of the train derailed as a result of the accident, affecting rail traffic on both up and down lines. Railway Minister announced compensation, NDRF team reached the spot
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, who left for West Bengal, has announced an assistance amount of Rs 2.5 lakh for those seriously injured in the accident and Rs 50,000 for those with minor injuries. The Railway Minister said in a post on the social media platform ‘X’, “This unfortunate accident took place in the Northeast Frontier Railway area. Rescue operations are going on on a war footing. Railways, NDRF and SDRF are working in coordination. The injured are being taken to the hospital. Senior officials have reached the spot.
