Know the eligibility to get train ticket refund

Let us tell you that if a passenger holding a confirmed, RAC or waitlist ticket is delayed by more than three hours in his train and he decides not to travel due to the delay in the train, then he is eligible to get a full refund. If you have an e-ticket, you will have to fill an online TDR before the train departs to get a full refund. If you have purchased a ticket from the reservation counter, you will have to cancel your ticket to get a full refund.

No refund will be given on ticket cancellation after train departure

Refund money for e-tickets is usually available within 3 to 7 working days. This amount is sent to the bank account used to make payment at the time of ticket booking. However, if your ticket is canceled due to any reason such as missing the train, you are not eligible for refund.

What to do for refund?

You can request to get a refund using the IRCTC online platform or by visiting the reservation counter if the train is delayed by more than three hours.

Refund eligibility for specific trains:

As per railway rules, full refund can be requested only if the train is late by more than three hours. There is also a cancellation charge for passengers who change or cancel their travel plans. Cancellation charges vary depending on the type of ticket and the time at which the cancellation charge begins.

1. Cancellation charges for confirmed tickets (more than 48 hours in advance):

-First AC/Executive Class: Flat Rs 240 cancellation charge per person
-Second AC-Tier/First Class: ₹ 200
-Third AC -Tier/AC Chair Car/Third AC -Economy: ₹ 180
-Second Class: ₹ 60

2. Cancellation less than 48 hours and up to 12 hours before departure:

-25% of total ticket fare paid (subject to minimum flat cancellation charge)

3. Cancellation less than 12 hours and up to 4 hours before departure:
-50% of the total fare paid at the time of purchasing ticket (subject to minimum flat cancellation charge for each class)

4. Cancellation of RAC/Waitlisted tickets (up to half an hour before departure):
-Full refund after deducting clerkage charges per person
