You have to fill some details by clicking on it while booking the ticket. After that you get registered under this insurance. Keep in mind that those who buy tickets from the counter and those who travel in general do not get the benefit of this insurance.
Compensation as per the loss
Under the Railway Travel Insurance facility, if a passenger dies in a rail accident or becomes permanently disabled, then an insurance amount of up to Rs 10 lakh is given. If the passenger becomes partially disabled, then he is given Rs 7.5 lakh as compensation. At the same time, if a passenger is seriously injured, an assistance of Rs 2 lakh is given and if the passenger is slightly injured, the railway gives up to Rs 10 thousand.
How can you make a claim
Only Indian citizens can avail the benefit of this travel insurance provided by IRCTC, foreign citizens are not covered under it. You can claim for insurance within 4 months of the train accident. For this facility provided by IRCTC, you can go to the office of the insurance company from which you have purchased the insurance and file a claim for insurance. Keep in mind that while purchasing the insurance, you must fill in the name of the nominee, so that in case of any untoward incident, he/she does not face any problem in claiming.
