Will banks remain closed on Tuesday 29 October?

Dhanteras festival will be celebrated across the country on Tuesday 29 October 2024. However, banks will not be closed on Tuesday. Regular work will be done in banks. Dhanteras, also known as Dhantrayodashi, is a special festival celebrated before Diwali. In Hinduism, this day is dedicated to Kubera, the god of wealth, Lord Dhanvantari, the god of Ayurveda and Mother Lakshmi. On this day people buy gold, silver, utensils and brooms, as it is considered auspicious and brings good luck.

This year the festival of Dhanteras is on Tuesday, 29 October 2024, which marks the beginning of the five-day festival of Diwali. On this day, people clean their houses and pray to Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Kubera and wish for prosperity.

When will banks be closed on Diwali: Know why there will be a 2-day holiday

There is a lot of confusion about the date of Diwali this year in 2024. Some people are celebrating Diwali on October 31, while some on November 1. According to the Panchang, this year Diwali will be celebrated on Thursday, October 31, as Amavasya is starting on this day at 3:12 pm and will end the next day i.e. on November 1 at 5:53 pm. Due to the end of Amavasya, there will be no time for Lakshmi Puja on November 1, so the puja will be held on the evening of October 31.

Due to this confusion, this time RBI has given Diwali holiday on 2 days i.e. October 31 and November 1. This will end the confusion among people and investors, and banks will remain closed on both days. Diwali is celebrated every year on the new moon day of Kartik month and on this day there is a tradition of lighting lamps and Lakshmi Puja after sunset.
