Devotees keep fast and perform special rituals in temples. Given the importance of this festival, there is a bank holiday in Tamil Nadu. Due to the closure of banks on the occasion of Thai Poosam, people would not have finished their bank work in advance.

List of bank holidays in February 2025 – State wise
Banks are closed on all national and local festivals, anniversaries, Sundays, second Saturdays and fourth Saturdays of every month. All bank branches are open on first, third and fifth Saturdays. Banks will remain closed for 14 days in the month of February.
