Demand to impose 5 percent GST instead of 18 on cable TV
However, this decision of the government has started being opposed in many parts of the country including Tamil Nadu. The central government’s rule of increasing the channel tariff and imposing 18% GST has started being opposed. Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has increased the tariff of cable TV channels. Also, 18 percent GST is being imposed. But cable TV operators say that the GST rate should be 5 percent instead of 18 percent.

Chennai cable TV operators are opposing this rule of the government. AMMK founder TTV Dhinakaran has written a post on the social media platform regarding this matter. He has also put pressure on the government to withdraw the rule of imposing 18 percent GST.
Know how much the monthly expense will increase
The increase in GST will have a direct impact on the customers. Meaning, if the government imposes 18 percent GST on cable TV operators, then the increased price will be charged from the customers by the operator. In such a situation, if your monthly recharge is Rs 500, then you will have to pay Rs 90 more. On the same recharge of Rs 1000, you will have to pay Rs 180 extra. Similarly, on a recharge of Rs 1500, you will have to pay Rs 270 more. In such a situation, your monthly expenditure of users watching cable TV will increase. What is cable TV?
