DMRC is going to build two new metro corridors in Delhi. Delhi Metro management has intensified the process for their construction. Construction work on these corridors will start by the end of this year.
Delhi Metro management has accelerated the process for the construction of two more corridors of Metro Phase 4, Lajpat Nagar to Saket G Block (Golden Line) and Indraprastha to Indralok (Green Line Extension). Within three months of the project getting approval, the alignment work of both the corridors has been completed. That is, the blueprint of where this corridor will pass through, where permission is required from where, has been prepared after the survey. The target of the Metro management is to start the construction work of both the corridors by the end of this year.
According to Delhi Metro Managing Director Vikas Kumar, two of the remaining three corridors of Metro Phase 4 were approved in March 2024. After this, work is being done at a fast pace. The work of issuing tenders for construction work and preparing contract documents is being finalized. He said that now talks are going on with our loan providing company regarding the agreement.
Interchange facility at every second station
According to the Metro, there will be a total of eight new interchange stations on both the 20.76 km long corridors. In this, Indraprastha-Indralok will be the first such corridor of Delhi Metro, which will have interchange facility at every second station. There will be a total of 10 stations on this 12 km corridor, out of which five will be interchange stations. It will connect the existing five corridors Blue (Delhi to Noida), Pink (Majlis Park to Maujpur), Magenta (Janakpuri to Botanical Garden), Yellow (Samaypur Badli to Gurugram), Red Line (Rithala to Ghaziabad New Bus Adda). There will be a total of three interchange stations from Lajpat Nagar to Saket G Block. It will connect those areas of South Delhi which fall within 2-3 km radius of the existing metro network, but have no direct connectivity. Currently, there are a total of 54 interchange stations on 11 metro corridors.
People of these areas will benefit
Two more corridors in Metro Phase 4 will be very special in many ways. This will not only increase connectivity, but will also connect areas which are still three to four kilometers away from the Metro network. With the construction of both the corridors, many important commercial and administrative offices of Delhi will be connected to the Metro network. Important places like Delhi Secretariat, IGI Stadium, LNJP Hospital, Sarai Rohilla Railway Station, Greater Kailash-1, Saket District Center with business activities will be directly connected to the Metro network. Apart from this, many areas of Old Delhi like Nabi Karim, Ballimaran, densely populated areas like Ajmal Khan Park will also be connected to the Metro.
Five out of six corridors approved
A total of six corridors are proposed in Delhi Metro Phase 4. Construction is already underway on three corridors with a 65.10 km long network – Janakpuri West to RK Ashram, Tughlakabad to Aerocity and Maujpur to Majlis Park. All three corridors are targeted to be completed by March 2026. Of the remaining three corridors, two, Lajpat Nagar to Saket G Block and Indralok to Indraprastha, have been approved in March 2024. The Narela-Bawana corridor has not yet been approved as it has to be extended to Kundli in Haryana.
