The central government has given approval to the Hafkin Institute in the city to produce Bharat Biotech’s anti-corona virus vaccine covaxine (covaxin). According to information received by the Maharashtra government, the vaccine will be produced in Mumbai. After this approval of the Center, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi.




The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) official said that Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had earlier requested the Center to allow the Hafkin Institute to produce cocaine. It is currently being manufactured by Bharat Biotech based in Hyderabad. He said that the Center has given its approval for this. The official said that Thackeray thanked the central government for granting permission.

The central government said on Thursday that India’s drug regulator would take a decision on this within three days of receiving an application for limited emergency use of vaccines manufactured abroad. Central Drug Authority, CDSCO within three working days from the date of application for registration certificates (product and its registration, manufacturing site in case of anti-Kovid-19 vaccine) and import license for clearance for limited use in emergencies.
