A big plan is coming out from the Unique Identity Authority of India, (UIDAI). Under this, only the smart phone of the users can be used as a universal authenticator. In today’s date, it is used for finger prints and OTP authentication. But under this plan, soon the smartphone can be used to complete the authentication process. Users have to do fingerprints or eye scanning to take advantage of facilities like pension, ration. But soon a smartphone can be used in its place.
If this happens, people will not have to make rounds of offices or any other government institutions to take advantage of government facilities. Aadhar card holder person will be able to verify Aadhar card (virtually smartphone) from virtually smartphone by sitting at home.
Where can you use the smartphone as an authenticator?
• In opening a bank account
• In making pension
• In linking PAN
• In making ration card and taking ration
• In getting a driving license
• In getting a new mobile connection
At present there are about 120 crore mobile connections. Out of this, about 800 million smart phones are planned to be used as authenticators. So far no information has been shared about how the smartphones will be used for authentication, but this Work is being done on war-footing on the plan. Although work is being done fast in this direction, but Aadhaar Security can become a big problem in this direction. Aadhar card is linked with many schemes and bank accounts as well as about 3 lakh pension accounts. Banking and Telecom industry also uses Aadhaar number for KYC update. In such a situation, it will be interesting to see how the government makes people’s lives easier by connecting smartphones and Aadhaar numbers.
