Ujjwala Yojana: 10 million Free LPG Gas connection under pmuy scheme soon

Ujjwala Yojana: Under this scheme, free cooking gas connections are distributed to the families falling below the poverty line.



Presenting the budget on February 1, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had said that under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, 1 crore more new connections would be distributed free of cost. According to the latest information, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has prepared the outline of the next phase. It is believed that this month the announcement will be implemented.

Under the Ujjwala scheme, free cooking gas connections are distributed to the families falling below the poverty line. According to the Economic Times report, 83 million (8.3 crore) LPG connections have been distributed under this scheme till 31 January 2021. Under the budget announcement, in the current financial year, new gas connections will be distributed in those states and areas where it is less accessible. The list of beneficiaries of Ujjwala scheme is also important for the government because considering this as the basis, the government provides various schemes and benefits to the needy. Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana was launched on 1 May 2016. Let us tell you that when you take LPG connection under the Ujjwala scheme, the total cost with stove is Rs 3,200. In this, a subsidy of Rs 1,600 is given directly by the government and the remaining amount of Rs 1,600 is given by the oil companies, but the customers have to pay this amount of Rs 1,600 as EMI to the oil companies.

With the slogan of “Clean Fuel, Better Life”, the Central Government on 1 May 2016 launched a social welfare scheme – “Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana” under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi. The scheme envisages a smoke-free rural India and target was to provide LPG connections at affordable rates to 5 crore families, especially women living below poverty line, by the year 2019.

To take advantage of the Ujjwala scheme, the applicant must be above 18 years of age and a woman. Applicant must be a BPL card holder rural resident. The female applicant should have a savings bank account in any nationalized bank across the country to get the subsidy amount. Applicant family should not already have LPG connection at home.



BPL ration card is necessary to apply under this scheme. Apart from this, a BPL certificate authorized by the Panchayat Pradhan / Municipality President, a photo identity card (Aadhaar card or Voter ID card), a recent passport size photograph and basic details like name, contact information, Jan Dhan / bank account number, Information like Aadhar card number is required.
