The number of registered but unrecognized political parties in the country has doubled in the last decade. In 2010 there were 1,112 parties in the country, this number has reached 2,301 as per the registration done by 2019.

The special thing is that Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of 653 i.e. 28 percent parties in the country. Delhi, ranked second in this case, is far behind UP with 291 parties. The Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) has given this information in its latest report.

Such parties are placed in the category of unrecognized, newly registered or who do not get enough votes in the assembly or general elections to be called state level parties. These include parties not contesting elections.

The report also revealed that while the number of new parties increased by 18 percent at the time of the Lok Sabha elections in 2013-14, it increased by only 9.8 percent during 2018-19. In terms of numbers, Delhi is followed by Uttar Pradesh, followed by Tamil Nadu with 184 parties.
