UP Panchayat Election: 73.5 percent polling in third phase, more than 2.72 lakh candidates’ fate closed in EVM

There are 2.14 lakh seats in the posts of Zilla Panchayat Member, Kshetra Panchayat Member, Gram Pradhan and Gram Sabha Member in the third phase of Uttar Pradesh Panchayat elections.

In the third phase of Uttar Pradesh’s panchayat elections, around 73.5 percent polling was held on Monday. Polling started at seven in the morning and lasted till six in the evening. According to the State Election Commission, in this phase, the fate of more than 2.72 lakh candidates will be decided in 20 districts. In the third phase of panchayat elections, 73,663 candidates have been elected unopposed.




In the third phase, there are 2.14 lakh seats in the posts of Zilla Panchayat member, Kshetra Panchayat member, Gram Pradhan and Gram Sabha member. Commission official said that 73.5 percent voters cast their vote on Monday. According to the information received from the Commission, in the third phase, 10,416 candidates for 746 seats of Zilla Panchayat member, 88584 candidates for 18,530 seats of Kshetra Panchayat member, 1,16,162 candidates for 14,379 seats of Gram Pradhan and 57,649 in 1,80,473 seats of Gram Panchayat ward. The candidates were in the fray.

Earlier, in the first phase elections held on April 15, there was 71 percent turnout while in the second phase elections held on April 19, more than 71 percent turnout was recorded. The Allahabad High Court has directed the state government to complete the process of panchayat elections by 25 May. In view of the corona virus epidemic, the State Election Commission in March gave instructions that during the Panchayat elections only a maximum of five people can go door-to-door campaigning.

The fourth and last phase of panchayat elections will be held on April 29. According to the election notification, the result of the panchayat elections will be announced on May 2. Earlier, Samajwadi Party President and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has accused the BJP government that it is affecting the Panchayat elections by resorting to the global corona epidemic.
