Getting the Aadhaar card updated has now become very easy and due to the new rules, the address can be easily updated for free till September 14. This can be done from the comfort of your home by uploading supported documents.
Aadhaar card update: To make changes in your information on Aadhaar card, you do not need to go anywhere and this can be done online sitting at home. The interesting thing is that Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is giving the option to update Aadhaar cards for free for the next 10 days. Till now, a fee of Rs 50 had to be paid for updating selected Aadhar card details online.
You can update your demographic information on Aadhaar card online and there is an option to do so for free till 14th September. Demographic information includes information such as name, address, date of birth, gender, mobile number and email. Earlier, you had to pay Rs 50 to update this information. However, information like photo, fingerprint or iris can be updated only by visiting the nearest Aadhaar center.
Why is it important to update Aadhaar?
UIDAI has made it mandatory to update Aadhaar card for those Indian citizens whose information was updated or registered before 10 years. That means Aadhar card will have to be updated once in 10 years, so that the database related to it remains up-to-date. The agency has clarified that many citizens keep updating their city or address, apart from this, information like mobile number or email address also changes. It is important to keep it updated.
Children’s Aadhaar Card Guidelines
New guidelines related to updating Aadhaar cards of children have been shared by Sapkar. It has been made clear in these guidelines that it is mandatory to update the biometrics of children as soon as they turn 15 years of age. In this way, the government wants to decide that as the children grow up, their information should be updated in the database. To prevent frauds related to Aadhaar, information on it should also be updated.
Aadhaar will be updated online like this
- First of all you have to go to UIDAI website uidai.gov.in.
- After clicking on the ‘My Aadhaar’ tab here, you will have to select ‘Update Your Aadhaar’ from the drop-down menu.
- Now after entering your Aadhaar number and captcha verification code, you will have to click on ‘Send OTP’.
- You will be able to login with the help of OTT coming on the registered mobile number.
- On the next page, while selecting the demographic details, you will have to make the necessary changes and upload the scanned copy of the relevant documents before clicking on ‘Submit Update Request’.
You will get the Update Request Number (URN) through SMS, with the help of which the status of the request can be tracked. After the stipulated time, you will start getting the option to download the updated Aadhar card.
