Recently, NPCI has launched a new feature called UPI Lite X, which allows users to do offline money transfer even without an internet connection.
New Delhi. The popularity of Unified Payments Interface (UPI) is increasing in the country. If someone wanted to send money, one had to visit banks first. Now you can do this work sitting at home through any UPI app like PhonePe, BHIM, Paytm. Usually for this you only need internet. But do you know that even if your phone does not have internet, you can transfer money through UPI. Yes, it is true. Recently, National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) has launched a new feature called UPI Lite X, which allows users to transfer money offline even without an internet connection.
UPI Lite X feature was introduced at the recently held Global Fintech Fest. This feature works with Near Field Communication (NFC) support. This means that if your phone has NFC facility then you can use UPI Lite X.
UPI Lite X: How to set up on BHIM app?
The feature of UPI Lite X has gone live on Bhim app. To use it, users will need an Android smartphone with NFC support. This feature is not compatible with iPhone. To use this feature, both the sender and receiver must have the latest version of BHIM app installed. Apart from this, both the sender and receiver should have Android devices with NFC support.
- Open BHIM app and go to ‘UPI Lite X Balance’ menu.
- Tap on the ‘Enable’ button.
- Toggle the tickbox to allow offline transactions and then tap on ‘Enable Now’.
- The app will prompt you to add funds to your UPI Lite wallet. Enter amount.
- Click on the ‘Enable UPI Lite X’ button.
- You will be asked to enter your UPI PIN
- Once funds are added to your wallet, you can start using UPI Lite X.
More than 10 billion transactions took place through UPI in August
Let us tell you that the number of transactions through UPI crossed 10 billion in August. Recently NPCI had given this information. According to NCPI data, on August 30, the number of UPI transactions reached 10.24 billion. The value of these transactions was Rs 15,18,456.4 crore. The number of UPI transactions in July was 9.96 billion while in June it was 9.33 billion.
