UPI service will be stopped on these numbers, rules are changing from April 1

UPI Payments: If you use UPI payments, then this news is important for you. From April 1, 2025, if your mobile number is inactive, then the UPI ID associated with it will be closed. If you want your UPI to continue working without interruption, then definitely update your active mobile number in the bank. Otherwise, your UPI may be closed after April 1.

What is happening?

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has asked banks and UPI apps (such as GPay, PhonePe, Paytm) to update their records by March 31, 2025. Mobile numbers that are not being used will be removed from the UPI system.

Why was this step taken?

NPCI says that UPI accounts linked to old or closed mobile numbers are increasing many technical problems and cases of fraud. When these numbers are given to a new user, there is a risk of money being transferred from the old account incorrectly.

Who will be affected?

Your UPI account may be closed if you have taken a new mobile number but have not updated it with the bank. Your old number is inactive (closed). You surrendered your SIM card but did not tell the bank.

How to avoid UPI being closed?

Check the mobile number registered in your bank account. If you have changed the number, then update the new number with the bank immediately. Complete this work before March 31, 2025, so that your UPI service continues.
