Let us tell you that this time many rules will be changed with the new year. Actually, National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) has given this update that if you are not able to do online transactions through UPI ID for more than a year, then your ID will be blocked from December 31.
National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) has given instructions to block inactive UPI IDs. Meaning, if you have not been doing online transactions through UPI ID for a year or more, then your UPI ID will be blocked from December 31. This means that your unused ID will be blocked from January 1, 2024.
What will be its effect –
Actually, platforms like Google Pay, PhonePe and Paytm use UPI ID to send money online, which is linked to the mobile number. Many times there are multiple UPI IDs linked to one mobile number, which are not used for a long time.
What to do to avoid ID block –
If you do not want your old inactive ID to be closed, then you will have to activate your old ID before December 31. For this you will have to activate it by making payment through UPI ID.
Why is the old UPI ID getting closed?
According to the NPCI report, customers link the mobile number to the new UPI ID on the new mobile without deactivating the old UPI ID. In this matter, guidelines have been issued by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India i.e. TRAI. On the instructions of NPCI, all banks and third party apps have started deactivating UPI ID. Actually, there is more possibility of fraud with old UPI ID. In such a situation, instructions have been given by NPCI to block it.
