NPCI has prepared e-RUPI
National Payment Corporation of India i.e. NPCI has launched e-RUPI in association with Department of Finance (DFS), National Health Authority (NHA), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) and banks. Works with SMS or QR code
e-RUPI is a cashless and contactless digital payment medium which is sent in the form of SMS or QR code to the mobile phone of the beneficiary. It is like a prepaid gift-voucher. This voucher can be redeemed without any credit or debit card, mobile app or internet banking.
How e-RUPI Vouchers will be issued
This system has been developed by NPCI on the UPI platform. Banks do the work of issuing these vouchers. Its beneficiary is identified by its mobile number. e-RUPI works even on basic phones
It is not necessary for the beneficiary to have a bank account for e-Rupee. It has a different feature as compared to other mediums of digital transaction. This ensures a two-step process of easy and contactless transactions. Personal details are not required for this. Another special feature of this is that e-Rupee is also operated on basic phones.
