According to the government’s guidelines, children can book slots on the CoWin app using their ID cards from January 1.
Children in the age group of 15 to 18 years in India can register on the Kovin portal for Kovid-19 vaccination from Saturday i.e. January 1. The government has said that both walk-in and online registration facility will be available for immunization of children. Children in the age group of 15-18 years will start getting the dose of corona vaccine against corona from January 3, 2022 in the country. While the Cowin registrations will start from Saturday, the onsite registration will start from the day of vaccination i.e. January 3.
According to the government guidelines, children can book slots on the CoWin app from January 1 using their ID cards. Dr RS Sharma, head of the Covin platform, had earlier said that apart from Aadhaar cards and other national identity cards, children can also use their class 10 ID cards for registration.
The Union Health Secretary has held a meeting through video conference with all the States and Union Territories (UTs) to discuss the rollout of vaccination for the 15-18 age group and the third dose as a precautionary measure for vulnerable categories. In the country, booster doses of corona vaccine will be given to health workers, frontline workers and people above 60 years of age.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his address to the nation on 25 December 2021, said that children in the age group of 15 to 18 years would be given the corona vaccine from January 3, 2022. At the same time, from January 10, 2022, health workers, frontline workers and people above 60 years of age will be given the third dose of the vaccine i.e. booster dose.
Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin, which has been approved for restricted use in emergency situations in the age group of 12 to 18 years, is the only vaccine available for children. The Center has advised states to set up separate dedicated COVID-19 vaccination centers for children in the age group of 15-18.
