New Delhi: More than 21,000 people were infected with the virus after taking their first dose of Corova Vaccine. While more than 5,500 people became infected even after taking the second dose. The central government gave this information on Wednesday.
ICMR Director General Balaram Bhargava said in a press conference that 17,37,178 persons had taken the second dose of covaxin, 0.04 percent of them infected with corona virus. At the same time, 0.057 percent of the 1,57,32,754 people taking the second dose of Kovishield have been infected with the virus.
What is breakthrough infection?
Bhargava said that vaccines reduce the risk of infection and prevent death and serious infections. He said that if someone gets infected even after vaccination, it is called Breakthrough infection.

Bhargava said that 11.6 crore doses of Kovishield have been given. 100 million people were given the first dose and 17,145 i.e. two out of every 10,000 people got infection. About 1,57,32,754 persons took the second dose of this vaccine and 5,014 (0.03 percent) of them were infected. ‘Breakthrough infection’ has occurred in two to four per 10,000 people, which is a very small number.
According to the data, 5,709 people became infected after taking the second dose of the vaccine. He said, ‘This is a small number and not worrisome.’

What did the health secretary say about the lack of oxygen?
Amid shortage of oxygen in the country, Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said that 7,500 metric tons of oxygen is being produced every day in the country and 6,600 metric tons is being supplied to the states for medical use.
He said, “Right now, we have issued instructions that barring some industries, the oxygen supply of industries will be limited so that more and more oxygen is available for medical use.”
