Delhi to Kashmir Train: Recently, Indian Railways has announced a major change in its train service going to Kashmir. From 26 January 2025, passengers going to Srinagar will have to change trains at Katra station in Jammu. Therefore, now there will be no direct train! This decision has been taken for security reasons. However, local people and traders are disappointed with this news. Actually, everyone was expecting a direct train between New Delhi and Srinagar. According to a TOI report, passengers going to Srinagar will now have to change trains at Katra station. From January 26, 2025, one will have to change trains at Katra station in Jammu for Srinagar.
The reason behind this big change is said to be concern about security reasons. Keeping in mind the safety of the passengers, they will have to board another train from Katra.
This decision taken by the railways has come as a big shock to the local people, businessmen and politicians. Earlier, people were expecting a direct train service between New Delhi and Kashmir. This was also expected to boost tourism. Changes in train timings may cause disruptions in these areas, which will affect tourism in the state.
Indian Railways is working on a future project to improve the direct rail link to Kashmir Valley with the aim to provide comfortable travel in the coming years.
Jammu and Srinagar are ready to be connected through the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL). The section of this line between Katra and Reasi is ready and trains can be operated on it.
Indian Railways is planning to run high-speed Vande Bharat trains on the Jammu-Srinagar route in the coming time. Along with this, other modern trains like Diesel Electric Multiple Unit (DEMU) and Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) will also be run. This will reduce the travel time of the passengers.
