Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau informed on social media platform X that he will give permits to 35 percent fewer international students this year in 2024 and this number will be reduced by 10 percent in the next year 2025. According to the data released by the Immigration Department of Canada, 5,09,390 permits were approved in 2023. And 1,75,920 permits were approved in the first seven months of 2024. This decision of the Canadian government will reduce the number of permits to 4,37,000 in 2025.
This new decision of the Canadian government will limit the work permits of students as well as the spouse of temporary foreign workers. Earlier in January 2024, the Canadian government had also set a limit of two years on international students.
