Study in Canada: The Canadian government has decided to reduce the number of temporary citizens, which has come as a big blow to foreign students dreaming of studying in Canada, the largest number of which are Indian students. The Canadian government has announced further reduction in permits for international students. Apart from this, the rules related to foreign workers have also been tightened. This decision will have a huge impact on Indian students and workers.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau informed on social media platform X that he will give permits to 35 percent fewer international students this year in 2024 and this number will be reduced by 10 percent in the next year 2025. According to the data released by the Immigration Department of Canada, 5,09,390 permits were approved in 2023. And 1,75,920 permits were approved in the first seven months of 2024. This decision of the Canadian government will reduce the number of permits to 4,37,000 in 2025.

This new decision of the Canadian government will limit the work permits of students as well as the spouse of temporary foreign workers. Earlier in January 2024, the Canadian government had also set a limit of two years on international students.

This decision of the Canadian government will have a huge impact on Indian students. Many Indian students prefer Canada for studying abroad. According to data released by the Indian government last month, a total of 13.35 lakh Indian students are studying abroad, out of which 4.27 lakh students are studying in Canada. The number of Indian students studying in Canada has increased by 260 percent from 2013 to 2022. According to a report released by Reuters, 40 percent of the international students studying in Canada are Indians. This decision of the Canadian government will be a blow to many students who want to go to Canada to pursue their studies, due to which now these students will have to think about the option of studying in other countries.
