Visa Fee Hike: On December 1, application and processing fees will increase for many types of applications for visitors, workers and students coming to Canada. This will be most affected by people from Punjab who are studying or working in an institution in Canada. The Department of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship (IRCC) in Canada has increased the fees for many applications for temporary residents.
These include the resumption of temporary resident status applications (for visitors, workers and students), authorization to return to Canada applications, criminal rehabilitation applications (including serious crimes) and temporary resident permit (TRP) applications. Young people of Punjabi origin will be affected the most.

Canada’s IRCC has not yet updated the new fees but has said that it will be increased on December 1. Canada Immigration Expert Parvinder Singh Montu says that Canada is taking steps day by day, which is having the most impact on the youth of Punjab. According to government figures, 319,130 Indian students study in the year 2023.
On the other hand, government figures also show that 807,750 international students have been granted study visas in the year 2023.

The increase in fees by the Canadian government is a direct burden on the students and those with work permits. Study visa expert Sukant says that the increase in fees will have a direct impact on the students who went to Canada from Punjab. Earlier Punjabis used to pay this fee with great difficulty, because the study and other expenses for one year after going to Canada have reached 25 to 30 lakhs.
