To vote, it is very important to have a Voter ID card. We all know how important Voter ID card is for elections. Voter ID also serves as identity and address proof. But what if you have not one but two Voter IDs? Today we are telling you about this.
1 year jail for having two Voter IDs
Having two or more Voter IDs is considered a crime, whether civil or criminal. Legally, a person cannot hold more than one Voter ID. Those found with two voter IDs from different locations can face imprisonment of up to one year, fine or both if caught. Additionally, it is illegal to be registered as a voter in more than one voter list.
How to apply for Voter ID
Step 1: If you are a first-time voter or have changed your constituency, you need to fill Form 6. NRI voters should use Form 6A and 7 to add or delete name in the voter ID card. For correction, use Form 8, and if you have changed your constituency, use Form 8A.
Step 2: Select your preferred language and fill the required details. Make sure you upload all the required documents along with the form.
Step 3: Verify all the details uploaded. You will then receive a verification email, which allows you to track the status of your Voter ID application. Note: Generally, it takes about 30 days to get the Voter ID made and any details changed in it.
Documents required to make Voter ID
To apply for voter card, you will have to go to the official website or app of the Election Commission. All documents will have to be uploaded online here. While applying for Voter Card, 2 passport size photographs, address proof, copy of bank passbook, ration card, passport, driving license, rent agreement, electricity bill, water, telephone and gas bills, age certificate, Aadhaar card and Documents like PAN card are required. If you are uploading all the documents sitting at home, then first convert your documents in PDF / JPG / JPEG format.
