Why is the price being increased
TV broadcasters are claiming that the content cost is continuously increasing, while the revenue from advertising is declining. In such a situation, the broadcasters have jointly announced to increase the price of TV channels, because it is becoming difficult for them to maintain the content quality. Also, the operating cost of the companies has also increased.
The price will increase by 10 percent
According to the report of Economics Times, TV broadcasters Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) and Zee Entertainment Enterprises (ZEEL) have announced an increase of more than 10 percent in the price of channel packages. Also, JioStar has indicated an increase in the price of its channel package. In such a situation, the price of Jio Star’s channel pack may increase soon.

Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) has increased the price of its channel pack Happy India Smart Hindi Pack from Rs 48 to Rs 54. Zee Entertainment Enterprises (ZEEL) has increased the price of its Family Pack Hindi SD from Rs 47 to Rs 53. English entertainment channel Zee Cafe has been added to this pack.
How many users of which TV channel
At present, the number of paid TV subscribers in India has come down from 120 million to 100 million. According to the report of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India i.e. TRAI, by September 2024, the number of paid active subscribers of Dish TV, Airtel Digital TV, Tata Play and Sun Direct has come down from 2.26 million to 59.91 million.
