Weather Update: Heavy snowfall warning in Kashmir today, rain and storm alert in these states

Weather Update: IMD scientist Naresh Kumar said that light to moderate snowfall may occur in the western Himalayan region in the next 4-5 days. Heavy snowfall is expected in Jammu and Kashmir on January 4 and 5.

Mausam Samachar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir this weekend. Its maximum impact can be seen on Saturday and Sunday. Apart from this, light to moderate rain may occur in the plains of the country today. The peak time of snowfall is expected from Saturday night to Monday morning. This weather is due to the active western disturbance in the western Himalayan region.

IMD scientist Naresh Kumar said that light to moderate snowfall may occur in the western Himalayan region in the next 4-5 days. Heavy snowfall is expected in Jammu and Kashmir on January 4 and 5. He also said that light to moderate rain may occur in the nearby plains as well.

The IMD weather bulletin said that widespread light to moderate snowfall and rain is expected in Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan and Muzaffarabad from January 4 to 6. Himachal Pradesh may receive light to moderate snowfall and rain on January 5 and 6. Heavy snowfall and rain is expected in these areas on January 4 and 5.

Mercury rises in Gulmarg and Pahalgam

Night temperatures have risen in Kashmir. The minimum temperature of Gulmarg in North Kashmir was recorded at minus 4.5 degrees Celsius. Just a night before this, it was around minus 8.6 degrees. The temperature of Pahalgam in South Kashmir was recorded at minus 4.6 degrees Celsius. The temperature in Srinagar was minus 2.2 degrees Celsius, which was slightly above the minus 2.6 degrees of the previous night. Qazigund is considered the gateway to Kashmir. The minimum temperature here was minus 7.3 degrees Celsius. It was the coldest place in the valley.

Flights affected at Srinagar airport

Dense fog in Kashmir affected flight operations at Srinagar airport. Visibility dropped to about 300 meters. According to officials, this situation caused delays in several flights and diversion of one flight. The minimum visibility for flight operations is 1,100 meters. However, after improvement in this, flight operations resumed at 11:48 am.

Dense fog in Delhi and other states

The Regional Meteorological Center in New Delhi has predicted light fog and haze in most areas on Saturday. Dense fog will also occur at some places. Partly cloudy weather is expected during the day. Light fog or mist is expected in the evening and night. The maximum temperature is expected to be around 21 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature is expected to be around 8 degrees Celsius.

The Meteorological Department has warned of dense fog in parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh on Saturday morning. Apart from this, dense fog is also expected in parts of West Bengal, Sikkim, Odisha, Assam and Meghalaya on Saturday morning.

Dense fog is expected in parts of North Madhya Pradesh and Bihar on January 4. Fog is expected in Assam and Meghalaya till January 5. Dense fog is expected in Uttar Pradesh between January 7 and 9.
