IMD Alert: Heavy rains may occur in these states in the next few days. See full forecast here

Weather Update: India Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rains very likely over Gujarat Region on 15th June. As per IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall also very likely at isolated places over Saurashtra and Kutch on 14th June and extremely heavy rainfall on 15th June.

This predictions also comes as IMD had said Cyclone Biparjoy is likely to make landfall between the Kutch district of Gujarat and Karachi in Pakistan on June 15. The meteorological office has issued a cyclone alert for Saurashtra and Kutch coasts.

Apart from this, yesterday night, several parts of Mumbai and Maharashtra received rains. According to IMD, light to moderate spells of rain with gusty winds reaching 45-55 kmph very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Thane, Raigad, Mumbai, and Palghar. Today morning, High tidal waves witnessed in Mumbai as cyclone Biparjoy intensified into a severe cyclonic storm.

Rainfall Prediction in states

IMD has predicted widespread light to moderate rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls very likely over Northeast India during next 5 days. For Assam, in a ‘Special Weather Bulletin’, IMD’s Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Guwahati has issued ‘Yellow Alert’ for Sunday and Monday, followed by ‘Orange Alerts’ from Tuesday to Thursday. ‘Yellow Alert’ stands for watch and be updated, while ‘Orange Alerts’ implies to be prepared for action.

In East India, the weather office has predicted light to moderate fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with thunderstorm/lightning/gusty winds very likely over the region during next 5 days. As per IMD, heavy rainfall very likely at isolated places over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during next 48 hours and heavy to very heavy rainfall during subsequent 3 days. Heavy rainfall also very likely at isolated places over Andaman & Nicobar Islands during next 3 days.

In the Northwest India, the IMD has predicted light to moderate isolated to scattered rainfall accompanies with thunderstorm, lightning, gusty winds very likely over the Northwest India except Uttar Pradesh during next 5 days.

As per IMD, hailstorm is very likely at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand during 3-4 days. Severe thunderstorm with squall very likely over isolated parts of Rajasthan on 15th June, it said.

In South India, light/moderate scattered to fairly widespread rainfall with thunderstorm/lightning/gusty winds very likely during next 5 days.

“Heavy rainfall very likely at isolated places over Kerala during next 48 hours and over Coastal Karnataka during next 24 hours, it said.

Furthermore, IMD has also predicted light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely to occur in parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry from 11-15 June.

“Due to westerly wind and heat wave on June 11 Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning at one or two places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal. From June 12 to June 14 Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning at a few places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal. On June 15, Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning at one or two places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal,” an official statement said.

Heatwave predictions

IMD in its forecast has said that heat wave conditions is very likely to continue in isolated pockets over Bihar, Jharkhand and Coastal Andhra Pradesh during next 5 days.

As per IMD, heat wave over south Haryana-Delhi, south Uttar Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha during 11th to 13th June while over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh and Telangana on 11th & 12th June.

IMD Scientist Naresh Kumar issued an advisory on the current situation in the country.

IMD Scientist Naresh Kumar said, “Talking about the heatwave conditions in India, the main heat wave zone currently is East India. The heat wave conditions are prevailing in Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and West Bengal. For this, the IMD had issued an orange alert in these regions. Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are also coming under the influence of heatwave. North coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana will be affected by heatwave for next 5 days. Andhra Pradesh can expect a severe heat wave for the next two days and temperature can rise 6.5 degree above the normal. Apart from this, Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha will be affected by heat waves for the next 2 to 3 days. For Sunday the orange alert has been issued in Odisha and coastal Andhra Pradesh. In the other places the intensity is less so we have issued a yellow alert and also there is rainfall intensity in this region within 2 to 3 days so the other places can expect some relief.”

Moreover, hot and humid conditions are very likely over Tamil Nadu, Rayalaseema, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada during next 3 days, weather office said.
