April’s air was the cleanest in 6 years

The air quality index (AQI) in Delhi was below 200 on 23 days in April, the highest number of days with clean air in the last six years, barring 2020 when there was a lockdown due to Covid. This information was given by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) on Tuesday. The data shared by CAQM since 2018 shows that Delhi recorded 23 such days in this month when the air was clean. 17 such days were recorded in April last year, zero in 2022, 18 in 2021, 30 in 2020, 12 in 2019 and eight in 2018.

“As a result of consistent, comprehensive and concerted efforts by the Air Quality Management Commission and various stakeholders in the NCR and surrounding areas to control air pollution, as well as favorable meteorological conditions, Delhi has witnessed the lowest air pollution level in April,” CAQM said in a statement. The maximum number of days with air quality from ‘good’ category to ‘moderate’ category was recorded in 2024.’
