With the passing of the 90s, the demand for a separate state by cutting the hill districts of Uttar Pradesh increased. All the workers belonging to the hilly districts stood on the demand of Uttarakhand (Uttaranchal). The fire of protests was growing year after year. One such tremendous demonstration took place at Rampur Tirahe in Muzaffarnagar in October 1994. Hundreds of protesters, demanding a separate state, gathered at Rampur Tiraha. They were shouting slogans against the government and moving forward.
Ban on Mulayam’s entry into the hill districts: Police used force on the night of 1 October 1994 to stop the protesters. Mulayam Singh Yadav was then the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. At midnight, protesters demanding a separate state by using force were so angry that they announced a ban on Mulayam’s entry into the border of the hill districts. They believed that force was used on them only at the behest of the state government and especially Mulayam.
Protesters threatened:After the firing on protesters in 1994, the demand for a separate state spread rapidly. Activists demanding a separate state were devising different strategies and pressurizing the central and state governments. During this time, an incident occurred which made the Mulayam family worried. In fact, the protesters made a threat to Mulayam’s cousin Professor Ram Gopal Yadav, Tejbir and Sillu, who were studying in the same school. After this threat, the Yadav family became concerned about the safety of the children.
Airlift brought safe: A strategy was started to bring children safe. But the authorities feared that there might not be any untoward incident while bringing the children on the road and the protesters should not harm the children. After this, a plan was made to have children airlifted.
