What is the ‘SUMAN-Surakshit Matritva Aashwashan’ scheme, for whom?

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has recently launched Suman Yojana. The purpose of Suman Yojana of MP government is to promote safe motherhood. Usually millions of women die while giving birth to a child in the country.

Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chauhan, along with Health Minister PR Chaudhary, has launched the Suman-Safer Maternity Assurance Scheme in Madhya Pradesh. In many cases due to inadvertence, the health of both the mother and child is affected. Suman or Safe Maternity Assurance Scheme has been launched to overcome this problem. The main objective of MP government’s Suman Yojana is to provide safe motherhood to pregnant women.

Under the Suman Yojana of the MP government, a provision has also been made to raise the expenses incurred on the treatment of pregnant woman or any other problem. Under Suman scheme, provision of medicines is also made for both mother and child till 6 months after delivery.




If the newborn child needs any type of disease or any type of test, then its cost is also borne by the government under Suman Yojana. Under Suman scheme, such pregnant women can avail which comes below the poverty line or their economic condition is very bad.

Aadhar card of pregnant woman and her income certificate may be necessary to avail the Suman scheme.

The Suman scheme is actually a central government scheme, which was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 10 October 2019. Under the Suman scheme, the government provides free healthcare to pregnant women and their infants.

Under the Suman scheme, beneficiary women have many other facilities besides delivery, including four check-ups before childbirth, 6 home visits for newborn checkups, iron and folic acid supplements, injections of tetanus and diphtheria. Other than ANC checkup is included. Also, free vehicle is provided from home to the health center at the time of delivery of the child. For delivery of the child, women have been made mandatory to stay in the hospital for 48 hours.
