PM JanDhan Yojana: The Narendra Modi government at the Center had started many schemes in its first term. One of the big schemes out of this was to open Prime Minister Jan Dhan accounts. Its objective was to bring every poor person of the country into the formal banking system. Not only does the central government send money from government schemes like PM Kisan Scheme to this account, but the customers also get many special facilities. One such facility is overdraft. Under this, customers get the facility to withdraw money even if there is no money in the bank account.
What is the limit
Overdraft limit is Rs 10,000. Overdraft facility up to Rs 2,000 is available without any conditions. For this the maximum age limit has been increased from 60 years to 65 years. Let us tell you that earlier the overdraft limit was Rs 5,000. This limit has now increased to Rs 10,000.
More than 51 crore accounts have been opened
According to Union Minister of State for Finance Dr. Bhagwat Kisanrao Karad, a total of 51.04 crore Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) accounts have been opened till November 29, 2023. It has deposits of Rs 2,08,855 crore. A total of 4.30 crore PMJDY accounts have zero balance as on 22nd November as the scheme provides an in-built facility of non-requirement of maintaining any minimum balance in PMJDY accounts.
According to government data, about 55.5 percent of Jan Dhan accounts are of women and 67 percent of the accounts are opened in rural/semi-urban areas. Additionally, approximately 34 crore ‘RuPay Cards’ have been issued for these accounts without any charges, under which an accident insurance cover of Rs 2 lakh is also provided.
