Bima Sakhi scheme: Life Insurance Corporation of India offers insurance policies for every class. Now the government insurance company has started a special scheme for women, under which at least 7000 rupees will be given per month. Prime Minister Narendra Modi started this scheme in December last year. The name of this scheme is Bima Sakhi, which has been started by Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) to empower women financially.
The Bima Sakhi scheme aims to onboard 100,000 Bima Sakhis within a year to provide rural women with an opportunity to become insurance agents, earn a livelihood and raise awareness about insurance in villages. The LIC Bima Sakhi scheme is expected to not only create new livelihood opportunities for rural women but also improve insurance access in underprivileged areas of India.
By launching this scheme, LIC has taken an initiative to empower women and contribute to the broader goal of financial inclusion. The scheme targets women in the age group of 18 to 70 years who have studied at least up to class 10. As part of its women empowerment campaign, LIC plans to enroll 100,000 Bima Sakhis in the next 12 months and 200,000 Bima Sakhis in three years.
Features of this scheme
Women participating in this scheme will be given a fixed stipend for the first three years in addition to the commission earned from policy sales.
- The estimated monthly income for women will start from Rs 7,000.
- During the first year, individuals will receive Rs 7,000 each month.
- In the second year, the monthly payment will decrease to Rs 6,000.
- By the third year, the amount will decrease to Rs 5,000.
- Women who achieve or exceed sales targets will be given additional commission-based incentives.
- Freedom to work is given under this scheme. Also, training for agents will be provided by LIC. By enrolling in the program, women will receive special training and financial literacy support for the first three years. Graduated Bima Sakhis will get the opportunity to work as LIC agents and may also be eligible for the role of development officer within the company.
Who can apply?
Women between the ages of 18 and 50 are eligible to apply for this program. The minimum eligibility is 10th pass and women living in rural areas will be given preference. Relatives of existing agents and employees will be considered ineligible in this scheme.
