What is Office Peacocking?
‘Office peacocking’ is a strategy used by employers to make their offices more attractive and comfortable. Its use has increased significantly to bring employees back to the workplace after the COVID-19 pandemic.
Kartik Narayan, Chief Executive Officer (Staffing) of human resource service provider ‘Teamlease Services’, told ‘PTI-Bhasha’ that the concept of ‘office peacocking’ has gained momentum in India after the global pandemic. After working from home became affordable and comfortable for employees, bringing them to the office became a challenge.
The office is made attractive
In ‘Office Peacocking’, measures like attractive furniture, decoration, comfortable place at the workplace, natural light and good food arrangements etc. are taken in the offices so that an attractive and lively atmosphere of work can be created.
HR Director and CEO of CIEL, a company that manages employees, Aditya Narayan Mishra said that the trend of ‘Office Peacocking’ has increased significantly in the last two to three years. Investment in decoration and design of the office has increased by an estimated 25-30 percent.
Mishra told ‘PTI-Bhasha’ that this trend is most prevalent in major metros like Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi-National Capital Region and Hyderabad. There are many multinational companies and startup units in these cities, which are at the forefront in adopting this trend. Titir Dey, Managing Director of Space Matrix Global, a company that designs workplaces, said that ‘Office Peacocking’ has become very popular recently.
Focus on bringing employees back to office
Companies are looking for ways to bring employees back to the office after the global pandemic, with a lot of focus on technology enhancement. He told PTI-Bhasha, “Organizations can make the workforce more productive by creating an empathetic environment that meets both functional and emotional needs.”
